The lagoon is an eco-system under constant transformation due to
human intervention, and a space of relations which unites the terra
firma, the internal archipelago and the offshore bars with the sea. The
networks of existing museums could be hang together and get
structured within the eco-museum, and be distributed along a new
system of water transports. Insofar, our project initiates a long journey
which will convolve the multiple local and cultural institutions, which will
potentially become actors of the eco-museum of the Laguna.
Two firmly rooted institutions have involved themselves in the
realization of the project touching the lagoon of Venice : the Province of
Venice (Department of Tourism and Communitarian Policies) which is
the local entity including the lagoon in its jurisdiction, and the Giorgio
Cini Foundation (Institute “Venice and Europe”), an international
institution of a high cultural level located in the isle of San Giorgio. Both
institutions have already launched projects in neighboring fields, such
as, on one hand, the lagoon network of territorial museums and
researches on the historical system of fortifications and, on the other
hand, the Linguistic Atlas of the Mediterranean.
