Programme of the plenary session

The following programme is part of a series of meetings which took place in Hyères from 8 through 17 May 2003 under the general title : “Third Encounters about Landscape. Organising the Watch on Landscape”, an initiative of the association MALTAE (Mémoire A Lire Territoire A l’Ecoute) as being officially in charge of the “Pôle d’Economie du Patrimoine en littoral varois”, that is : a public programme for economic development starting from heritage resources in the area of the Var seaside -“ Var” being at the same time the name of a river and that of an administrative division, the French “département” (larger than a district, smaller than a province or region). During that period, three days were consecrated to our project : “Industrial Heritage Between Land and Sea” (financed by the European Commission), of which the above cited association is the leading partner and which, in that quality, was welcoming the first general meeting of all the participants in the project.

Thursday May 15 :
  11:00 - 19:00 : Constitutive Assembly for the European network of Eco-museums of “Industrial Heritage Between Land and Sea”.

Friday May 16 : Reports by representatives or by scientific leaders coming from each of the partner countries in the project “Industrial Heritage Between Land and Sea”, with a special emphasis on the problematic of “Safeguarding and Enhancement” as envisioned in their respective “territories-laboratories”.

Saturday May 17 : Visits - Inspecting the coast by boat, from the Bormettes to Cap Garonne : mines, saltworks, harbours and arsenals. Boarding in La Londe-Les-Maures at - 10:00 a.m., Lunch at La Madrague de Giens, Landing at Les Oursinières, Le Pradet.
  3 :00 p.m. : Visit of the site and museum at Cap Garonne.
  6:00 p.m. : Conclusion
