Transportation facilities have changed during 1900’s dramatically. The first harbour activities were close the Aura bridge where was an ‘upper harbour’ used the steam ships for archipelago. The growth of urban structure meant building of new bridges which prevented steam ship traffic along the River Aura. Harbour activities were established on the mouth of the River Aura. The Pansio military harbour was established during the Second World War, and today the principal base of the Finnish Navy is located in Pansio. Pansio is also an important harbour enlargement area. Conflicts here are environmental because of Natura areas.
